Irene Sung

Dr. Irene Sung is Chief Medical Officer of Behavioral Health for San Francisco’s Department of Public Health, and this year’s recipient of the J. Elliot Royer Award for Community Service. She has dedicated her career to community psychiatry in San Francisco and Contra Costa Counties, providing psychiatric care for children, youth and their families in civil service clinics, and community-based organizations. In the last five years, she has focused her attention on the impact of racial bias and how it surfaces in our interaction with others, colleagues, and clients alike. This work has led her to provide space and opportunity to discuss issues around race as well as trainings on leadership and participatory decision making, that allows one a structure to hear all perspectives without judgment or bias.
